SELECT: semaglutide reduced cardiovascular events in people without diabetes
17,604 participants with prior cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity, followed for almost 40 months.
SELECT enrolled 17,604 people aged 45 or older with established cardiovascular disease, a body-mass index of 27 or more and no diabetes. They were randomly assigned to weekly semaglutide or placebo.
After a mean follow-up of 39.8 months, semaglutide was superior to placebo in reducing the composite of cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack or non-fatal stroke. It is one of the largest trials ever run with a peptide of this family.
In three points
- Human trial with 17,604 participants
- Fewer major cardiovascular events than placebo
